Learning from the worked example has always been an important research topic in educational psychology. This empirical research attempted to explore the effects of incomplete model essay writingup on English writing proficiency. The subjects were non-English majors from two parallel classes of a university. The results of the research showed that compared with complete model essay reading, the incomplete model essay writing-up could improve the content and frame of the writing significantly. Also it demonstrated some advantages on accuracy, though not remarkable. No obvious difference was found on word ability. Integrating reading into writing, the incomplete model essay writing-up could help to improve the language proficiency and learning.

The study explores the feasibility of the comprehensible output hypothesis theory for non-English major students in Chinese contexts by way of story-retelling. The study revealed: 1) There exists significant differences in group oral performance among “reminding-no reminding”, “requiring-reminding”and “reminding-no requiring” groups, while no significant differences among “requiring-no requiring”,“no requiring-no reminding” and “requiring-no reminding” groups. 2) Teachers’ corrective feedback can improve high school students’ “comprehensible output” frequencies. Students were more sensitive to the “Recast”, “Explicit Correction” that teachers used more often. 3) In the students’ opinion, teachers’“Recast” is conducive to improving their spoken English.

Based on the statistic analysis of the simile idioms covered in six dictionaries, this paper studied the non-prototypical cases of simile idiom construction that has been neglected by previous studies. Through analyzing the components of the vehicles and the semantic features of the non-prototypical simile idiom construction it is revealed that the componential structure of the vehicles is more complex than that of the typical ones, usually with a specific pre- or post- modifier added to the head word. In addition to the fact that in many idioms, multiple senses are conveyed by means of the same vehicle whereas the same sense is expressed by multiple vehicles, another semantic feature presents itself, that is, in some idioms, the nature or property of the vehicle apparently differs from the sense it targets at.
